Concrete, brick, scrap metal and green waste are all sorted and recycled rather than trucked straight to landfill. Only material that genuinely can't be recovered — mostly old lead-painted timber, carpet and insulation from older homes — goes to the tip.

Demolition questions, answered
Do I need a permit to demolish a house in Victoria?
Yes. A building permit is required for any habitable or masonry structure, and for sheds over 60m². Many South East and Peninsula councils also require a Section 29A report and consent under the Building Act 1993 before that permit can be issued. Dig Dig handles the demolition permit and guides you through your council's requirements.
Do you remove asbestos as well as demolish the house?
Yes. Dig Dig holds a WorkSafe Victoria Class B asbestos removal licence, so demolition and asbestos removal are handled by the same contractor under one quote, with an independent clearance certificate issued before demolition begins. Note that we only remove asbestos as part of a demolition — if the house is staying, you'll need a dedicated asbestos removalist. More on how that works →
How long does it take to demolish a house?
Most single-storey house demolitions take one to three days on site once permits and asbestos clearance are complete. The permit and clearance stage beforehand usually takes longer than the demolition itself. See the full timeline →
